Ponce Inlet
Living in Florida gives a photo freak great opportunities to satisfy his urges. I live in central Florida and on the weekends I visit the parks and old neighborhoods that surround my area. It's a great experience to share with your family and friends even if they are tired of you taking pictures; at least you are out of the house doing something new. There are a few of those places that I end up going back to alone because it’s a heck of a lot easier to take your time when there is no one rolling their eyes every time you stop for more than 5 seconds.
Visiting these places is also a sort of personal improvement quest for someone like me. The lighthouse on the left for example. I visited another lighthouse when I was in Key West almost 20 years ago. I remember going up to the top and discovering I was scared ***tless of heights. Ever since then I have been the one who won't go on tall rides. I took the elevator to the Empire State building and was in such a stupor when I got up there that I do not have any memories of ever getting out of the elevator. My next immediate memory is on the street in front of the building. Went to the big tower in Las Vegas at night and all I can remember is my friends making fun of me because I would not step away from the walls. I swore I would conquer that one. So I go to this lighthouse in Ponce Inlet, FL. So far I have gone all the way up to the top. It takes me a long time to get up there because I make stops at every landing in order to make my heart slow down and bring my breathing under control. The last time I made it to the top, it was like I had just conquered Everest. I felt such pride in myself. I got my camera out and got ready to take some great shots from the little balcony that goes around the lamp. Well... Things were not going to be that easy. I put one foot on that flimsy looking piece of corroded metal, and the whole world started spinning. The wind hit me and pushed me back inside the lighthouse. Needless to say I suffered from noodle leg syndrome on the way down. But I am not giving up yet. Going back as soon as it warms up to give it another go.
