Gatorland
Amazing park close to Kissimmee, FL in the old Florida style. Great for getting up close and personal with scary beasts without actually getting ripped apart. The picture you see is of the rookery. At certain times of the year the whole area is covered with birds doing their thing. Lots of spots for great pictures. Lots of birds everywhere posing for you. Lots of alligators everywhere. They have flamingos, wood storks, herons, egrets, snakes, peacocks, pigeons, voulchers, and a plethora of other animals that are not scared of you at all.
According to their website you can go inside the park early in the morning before it actually opens to get the full photographer experience if you pay extra. I am waiting for it to warm up a bit before I do it. I know, I know... I am chicken when it comes to the cold weather. I have been there 2 times with my camera and every time I come home wishing I lived closer. If you get there when the birds are having babies you will fill up your memory card very quickly. Best time of course is early in the morning as soon as they open. The sun is at the right spot to cast light on everything. The more I learn the more I want to go back to get more shots.
Food leaves a bit to be desired. I did see a Spanish restaurant across the street that looked worth a visit so next time I will hit it. Bathrooms are towards the front of the park and there are tourists everywhere. If you can, go towards the back of the park. Hardly anyone goes there and they have a great selection of gators and crocs in open enclosures just begging for you to take their pictures. I got lucky the last time and a great blue heron posed just for me. We had a great time together. She promised to call but I knew she wouldn't. I understand. She probably has a family of her own to take care of. Maybe next time I go she will come pose for me again...
