Lukas' Nursery
This place is great for picture nuts. Flowers galore in front of the Butterfly Encounter, and tons of butterflies inside for you to shoot. I have been there by myself during the summer. BAD IDEA! They need to keep that place really warm for the butterflies, which can make you sweat like a roasting pig in the middle of the summer. The lenses get really foggy and your camera can develop sensor spots because of the humidity. It took me a while to find the caterpillars. Plenty of butterflies to go around but I wanted a few caterpillar shots. Got some after an hour in there. I was the only person in there the entire time.
The second time I went there was with a group from www.meetup.com. Lots of people taking shots of them poor buggers. It was in the winter and the place was a lot cooler, and drier. My lens didn’t fog up, and no sensor spots developed. Not as many butterflies this time around and most of the ones that were coming out to play had damaged wings. There were like 15 people in there this time, all from the same group, and all of them shooting. I didn't sweat much this time around and did not see one caterpillar, but got a lot more good shots from the butterflies. I think the reason for the better shots is because I have more experience and I used my flash a lot more. I was really happy with the results.
