DeLeon Springs
Great place to go swimming if you don’t mind the water being freaking cold. Lots of parking spots, and very nice and clean. I did see a water moccasin snake about 20 feet from the mill. That mill is now a pancake restaurant where you go sit on a griddle/table and they bring you stuff to make your own pancakes. Can be fun; if you don’t mind paying someone for the privilege of cooking your own darn food.
There are lots of photo opportunities here. Plenty of wildlife around. You can also walk around the back in the "wilderness" area. Lots of trees and mud. Signs that tell you to watch out for bears and other wildlife are plentiful but I wasn’t lucky to see any of it. Lots of kids running around and people soaking in the sun. On one side of the little bridge you can swim right on top of the spring. On the other side you can be eaten by gators, bitten by water moccasins, or kayak your way around. It can be a lot of fun with the right group of people. If I had kids running around poking the snakes and swimming on top of a bottomless pit I would be freaking out the entire time.
The other issue I have with this place is the fact that people really do not appreciate you taking pictures in their general direction without their permission so you get the dirty looks even if you are zooming in really close to the bird behind them. They only see you aiming in their direction and I don’t blame them. In other places it’s a lot harder to tick people off. There is a nature reserve close by that is supposed to be excellent for wildlife shots. I haven't gone there yet but can't wait...
